The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) at UW-Platteville consists of four teams: Baja, Clean Snow, Formula, Aero. Specifically, the Clean Snowmobile team competes against other universities at the SAE International Clean Snowmobile Challenge. The team designs, builds and tests their two snowmobiles each year before competition. At competition, they compete in static and dynamic events where they are judged on everything from performance, cost, to their technical report. However, the biggest goal at competition is to have the cleanest, quietest and most efficient snowmobile. The team competes in two different classes with two different snowmobiles: gasoline and diesel. The diesel snowmobile is powered by a Kubota D902 while the gasoline snowmobile is powered by a Ford 1.0 L EcoBoost.
The team is trying to specifically raise more money to build their snowmobiles for the March of 2022 Competition over the next year as they are on an extremely tight budget. Without raising more money, only one snowmobile (and only half of the team) will be able to attend competition. This may impact the team's future engineers' career and professional development, as well as their access to important hands-on experiences. By raising money, the team will better prepare and attend competition.
