Cal Poly Humboldt students enjoy an extraordinary college experience, taking small classes taught by professors who know them by name. They live and learn in one of the world's most beautiful places—near ancient redwood forests, mountains and beaches.

Story

A $500 matching gift from Josh Meisel and Mary Virnoche will help expand support for students through the Sociology Student Research, Travel, and Events Support fund.

Support for students in the Sociology Department provides ongoing resources for paid applied research experiences, as well as travel and event opportunities across programs in Cannabis Studies, Criminology & Justice Studies, and the Sociology BA and MA.

These resources are critical for students who rely on paid work while completing their studies. With this support, students can be paid for applied research experiences and receive support for research and conference travel, as well as for student-led events hosted by the Sociology and Criminology Club and the Cannabis Studies Lab.

Alumni consistently share that applied research and action-oriented experiences were instrumental in shaping their passion for research and social change. Students also report that these opportunities are particularly impactful in helping focus their post-graduate educational and career interests.

Student awards funded through this campaign empower students to become engaged social scientists and contribute to positive social and environmental change. With your support, students in the Sociology Department can continue to benefit from the enriching experiences that applied research, conference participation, and event organizing provide.

Join us in helping students shift their perspective and lead change.
