Story
World Down Syndrome day helps raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is and shows how individuals with Down Syndrome have the ability to reach their fullest potential.
Did you know, that children with Down Syndrome can have a very difficult time with their speech? Speech is a critical skill to communicate their needs and wants, but many babies with Down Syndrome will not say their first words until age 2 or 3. Speech therapy is a great way to help babies learn how to talk and communicate, but most insurance companies won't cover the cost of this therapy, leaving parents to pay out of pocket for this service.
A family should never be in a position to decide if they can afford to pay for therapy out of pocket or not receive the service at all. Your support of Special and Determined helps us to provide families the financial support to help their child reach their fullest potential.
