Women of color leading grassroots nonprofit organizations achieve the most success at social change. Still, they remain wildly underrepresented in funding. In fact, philanthropic giving to women and girls of color accounts for only about 0.5% of the $66.9 billion traditional foundations gave in 2018.
The South Side Giving Circle disrupts this disturbing trend by investing in Black women leading change in our communities. Our investments support organizations addressing the unique needs and inequities faced by Black women and girls on the South Side and in the south suburbs of Chicago; paving a path to their economic security, freedom from violence, and access to healthcare and information.
For Black Philanthropy Month 2020, we celebrate the power of community and the power of the collective by inviting you to join us in a challenge to give and inspire others to follow our example. When every current member makes a gift of any amount, a generous Queen Maker will match donations up to $1,000.
We recognize the urgency of the public health pandemic that we're living through and that it impacts all of us. The additional funding will allow our grantees to meet immediate needs, and position them to thrive in the future.
