Ben-Zheng Li, Ph.D., saw his grandfather struggle to hear, and noticed how his father sometimes got dizzy spells in noisy places. 

“This made me more aware of how much hearing problems can impact daily life and steered me toward researching how to restore hearing,” he says.

Now as an Emerging Research Grants scientist, Dr. Li is studying how the brain processes speech in loud environments—one of the biggest challenges for people with hearing loss.
