We connect IEEE member-led initiatives with financing, expertise and philanthropic guidance. Our goal is to put effort where philanthropy and technology intersect. Together, we deliver opportunity, innovation and impact, and advance the IEEE mission across the globe.

Story

Hundreds of IEEE member volunteers support the IEEE-USA MOVE emergency relief program. A major component of this program are the IEEE-USA’s MOVE Community Outreach Trucks. The first truck (MOVE-1) went into service in March 2016. IEEE-USA’s second MOVE truck (MOVE-2) was donated by Cisco and delivered to IEEE-USA in July 2021. The newest addition, joining the MOVE fleet in August 2024 is based in Southern California. The program goal is to have a MOVE truck deployed in each of the IEEE-USA Regions so we can quickly respond to disasters across the USA.

Working with the American Red Cross, our volunteers have already responded to more than 40 disasters since March 2016, including hurricanes, tornados, fires and floods. They have deployed across a dozen states, including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

When not deployed for natural disasters, MOVE volunteers conduct community outreach and facilitate learning opportunities for students and the general public in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). They have been as far west as Texas, and as far north as New York to get students excited about STEM.
