Access to preventive screenings, such as mammograms, and other health services, save lives. When cancer and other conditions are found and treated at earlier stages, people generally have a greater chance of survival and better overall quality of life.

But many people across our community don't have access to these simple and vital tests. Barriers such as lack of transportation, job demands, and childcare often prevent people from seeking regular health screenings.

In the spring of 2023, Virtua unveiled its new Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit, custom engineered to provide leading-edge 3D mammography and other cancer screenings to our neighbors across Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties. Together with our generous donors, we are closing the health screening gap in South Jersey by driving this beautiful new unit into the communities where it's needed most.

Operating four days a week, the 40-foot Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit partners with local businesses, houses of worship, community centers, and more, to host screening events. Our team of clinicians and community health workers provides screenings to men and women with and without insurance. Additionally, if a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they will be quickly connected to our outstanding Virtua Health | Penn Medicine Cancer Program team for treatment.
