Story
Ruth's Place is the only emergency shelter for women in Luzerne County. A program of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, we operate a 24/7, 21-bed, open floor plan facility. Since its inception in 2003, the shelter has housed over 3,111 women and has provided over 72,666 nights of lodging. For 20 years, Ruth's Place has not only offered emergency shelter but an environment where women are supported and encouraged. It provides the bricks and mortar for well-being: a safe home, social relationships, healthy food, and connections to jobs and opportunities to build life skills.
As we host our 15th annual Walk for Hope to support the shelter, your investment in Ruth's Place will help us reach our primary goal of continuing to provide year-round programs and services to the women in our community who need support to become self-sufficient. Many women are one paycheck or domestic abuse incident away from becoming homeless. Your support will help to provide stability and hope!
