Story

What an event, what a day, what a community!

On behalf of the hundreds of people living with Parkinsons disease and their care partners in our community, we would like to thank everyone that participated in Walk Over Water 2022. The excitement and passion of everyone who attended made for a great day to fight Parkinsons despite the rainy weather. Many thanks to everyone who gave their time, talent and support to this important movement. Sending each of you our heartfelt appreciation for helping the Parkinsons Foundation make life better for people with Parkinsons.

Last year, we celebrated our 10th Annual Walk Over Water, and our 36th Anniversary as a Parkinson's Disease Support Group, the oldest in the United States! Every year, we walk in memory of those we have lost; we walk in honor of those living bravely with Parkinson's disease; and we walk in hope, hope for a cure for all those like Dorothy.

A retired English teacher, Dorothy now tutors high school students from marginalized communities, exercises regularly, and cares for her husband, who suffered a debilitating stroke. At 67 she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. One day, she nearly rear-ended a car that stopped suddenly in front of her. She realized that her Parkinsons had greatly reduced her reaction time and that she might have to stop driving. Her first thoughts were, Who will drive my husband to the doctor? Who will do our shopping? How will we manage? You can be part of the solution for Dorothy and others with Parkinson's, just like her.

Now, the 11th Annual Walk Over Water is coming to the Hudson Valley! You don't want to miss this! Our community is safely getting together again to help raise awareness and funds for the Parkinson's Foundation. This is your chance to speak up about Parkinson's and take action. Your support will help the Parkinson's Foundation advance research, provide educational resources, and fund programs that make life better for people living with Parkinson's Disease.
