Story

Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath have been working together for over 20 years exploring new opportunities to develop and improve cancer services and support.

With this shared vision in mind, Macmillan is investing £1.5 million into a new Macmillan Wellbeing Hub to be located at the heart of the RUHs forthcoming Dyson Cancer Centre. It will offer practical advice and emotional support to people living with cancer to help them live life as fully as they can at every stage of their cancer journey.

With the increased space and new facilities, the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub will mean we can support even more people living with cancer and their families - Tracy Langton, Macmillan Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

Arranged over three floors the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub will be a welcoming, relaxing and non-clinical space designed around the needs of patients and their families.

The facilities will include:

-Comfortable rooms for relatives of patients to stay overnight and be close to their loved ones

-a large open-plan information library with staff and volunteers on hand to offer advice and support

-three quiet rooms for counselling

-a complementary therapy room

-a dedicated lymphoedema care room, to prevent and treat the condition that can cause swelling in the body (usually the arms or legs).

-a room for group activities and support groups

-a room fully stocked with nutritional information, supplements and equipment where the dietetics team can offer nutritional support during and after cancer treatment

-a room designed specifically for teenagers and young people with cancer

-a room designed to help people to relax with a light and sound installation to create a calm and contemplative atmosphere

The Macmillan Wellbeing Hub will be there for people with cancer, their carers, and families, helping them to find their best way through cancer from diagnosis, during treatment, in recovery and at the end of life.

This investment is just one way that Macmillan is helping local people affected by cancer and it is only through the continued generosity of people in Bath and beyond that we are able to contribute this large sum of money to the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub - Kaeti Morrison, Macmillan Fundraising Manager
