Story

Dr. Trina Wijangco was brilliant, graduating at the top of her class in high school and Magna Cum Laude at New York University. She earned her Doctor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Temple University/St. Luke's University Health Network in 2021 and was pursuing her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

While Trina excelled at academics, it was her love for all people and her big heart that separated her from others. Prior to medical school, she was employed at the New York Veterans Hospital, caring for those who put their lives on the line to protect us. She was a fierce activist who advocated and lobbied for equity for all people and was also instrumental in co-founding the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce at Temple/St. Luke's, a student organization with a goal of supporting traditionally underrepresented minority medical students, while advocating to improve access, resources, and educational opportunities for underserved communities.

To honor Trina's memory, her friends and colleagues have established the Trina Wijangco, MD Scholarship, that will benefit future medical students at the Temple/St. Luke's campus who are interested in promoting diversity in medical education and/or have demonstrated experience in, or commitment to, working with historically underserved or underprivileged populations.
