This year, as a community, we are fully embracing social distancing while continuing to operate our businesses and organizations. At the WEDC Foundation, we have an opportunity to introduce a new aspect of the Women Honoring Women event this year! We are going to take the event to a virtual format, and we're enlisting the help of a few former honorees. They will be our inaugural Doyenne group!
What is a Doyenne? Someone who is knowledgeable or uniquely skilled as a result of long experience in her field of endeavor. In other words, she knows EXACTLY what she is doing. The feminine version of a results oriented leader who possesses the trifecta of power: seniority, authority, and rank. A self-confident leader who has obtained each of these through the eyes of others, and for our purposes, is also a former WHW honoree!
We are setting a goal to raise $100,000 this year to support our scholars. These funds allow us to help our scholars purchase books, pay for child care, pay fees associated with their degree, or anywhere they need to use the funds in order to stay focused on their schooling. We are also able to provide professional development workshops for our scholars that help them better prepare to join the workforce. One of the most beneficial aspects of what we offer through the WEDC Foundation is our top notch mentoring program. Each scholar is paired with a mentor who has experience and/or connections in their scholars field of study. Many of our scholars receive academic honors from their schools, and we also reward their hard work. Each scholar has the opportunity to receive academic bonuses based on their GPA each semester.
We are counting on you to join us as we continue to support our scholars through the great work of the WEDC Foundation. We look forward to seeing you, (virtually, of course), as we celebrate reaching and exceeding our $100,000 goal on September 17th!

Our global and national situations are stumbling blocks that could deter our mission, or we could choose to see this as an opportunity to find a new sense of normal, accept our challenges, create alternate paths and continue to thrive!!
