Thanks to the vision, commitment and generosity of Gail Alexander and her mother Abbie Wallace, YWCA will open its pet shelter this summer. Now, we will be able to provide safe refuge for the family pet as well as the family seeking safety and healing. We will have room for 6 dogs and 4 cats in Abbies Safe home.
Domestic violence impacts the ENTIRE family. Too often, family pets are also victimized by the abuser as well as the woman. We know people delay leaving domestic violence situations because they could not bring the family pet, making it more dangerous for them, the children, and the pet.
We must keep animals safe while they are at Abbies Safe Home. An essential tool to do so is a mobile crate. The pets will be frightened and traumatized from the abusive situation. The crate will be used when the family arrives for intake until the pet can be moved into Abbies Safe Home. They also will be used when transporting pets to the vet, so they are contained and safe in the vehicle.
Your gift will help us purchase 3 mobile crates, so we are ready to provide that safe and calm environment that these traumatized pets will need.
Abbie's Safe Home will remove a barrier to safety and allow pets and people to escape abuse together. Learn more about the pet shelter by vising https://www.ywcanashville.com/domestic-violence/pets/
