Story

I’m honored and excited to share that I’ve been selected to receive the Heart of Hero Award from Bideawee, one of the country's first animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. As a pianist, I provide music therapy to the animals in the Chelsea shelter. I play piano and write music for the dogs and cats as they wait for the comfort of a forever home. It may seem simple, but I’ve seen firsthand how music can soothe their hearts, quiet their stress, and bring a sense of peace in a noisy, uncertain world.
My heart sings when I see the animals happy, knowing that I played a part in their feeling comfort, nurtured, and safe during their time at Bideawee. I’m hoping this will inspire you to help animals too.
Please consider making a contribution to Bideawee. Your support will help cats and dogs find homes filled with music, joy, and unconditional love.

Bideawee’s Work
In 1903, when Flora Kibbe established Bideawee as a haven for the homeless dogs and cats that were being drowned in the East River, she could never have foreseen the impact her efforts would have on pets and the people who love them. Over 120 years later, Bideawee provides a host of programs and services aimed at reducing pet overpopulation, placing animals in loving homes, and cultivating the human-animal bond. Bideawee has helped hundreds of thousands of animals in need and continues our tireless efforts.
Bideawee’s focus on the human-animal bond is unique and they cultivate this relationship daily with programs like Veteran’s Pet Project, Pet Memorial Parks, Pet Loss Support Groups, and Pet Therapy and Reading to Dogs programs. Their work also centers on prevention by providing medical care, spray/neuter clinics, training, and behavioral programs to ensure that pets stay in homes. An extension of this work is their Feral Cat Initiative which supports the efforts of organizations and individuals who help stray and feral cats by humanely reducing the population through Trap-Neuter-Return.
Every year, Bideawee finds homes for approximately 1,200 dogs and cats, many of whom were rescued from injury, abuse, and neglect, and go on to become beloved best friends. Your support enables this work and provides a better future for New York’s homeless animals.
