London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
This April, I will be running the Virgin Money 2020 London Marathon for the second time and this year I have chosen to run for a local charity CHICKS!
I have seen first-hand the impact they can have on the lives of young carers and children who live in deprivation. They provide week-long respite for young people from a variety of backgrounds. They might be young carers, living in poverty, victims of bullying or abuse, or have been bereaved. The one thing they all have in common is that they could really benefit from a week away from their circumstances.
Every child has the right to make positive childhood memories. A CHICKS break inspires new confidence and gives children the chance to have fun, enjoy new experiences and relax. More than anything, it gives them the chance to just be children.
Each week from February to December, a group of up to 16 children stay at a Daleside Retreat in Derbyshire. The breaks are fun and exciting, whilst also providing opportunity for rest and relaxation. The children have the chance to take part in new activities and enjoy new experiences, and they always make the most of the beautiful countryside that surrounds the retreat.
Each week is designed and led by their skilled and energetic team, and is specifically tailored to fit the needs of each group. This means that every break is unique, but each one has elements of adventure, relaxation, creativity and imagination.
I am so excited to run London again, and I am so grateful for all of the support I have received so far!
