Lucinda's 5K Run for Canadian Breast Cancer Network

Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2025 · 24 May 2025 to 25 May 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
I used to run a lot. I loved it and ran a few races, just for fun.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2015. I stopped running while in treatment and started again when I finished treatment. It helped me recover my mental health after a harrowing year. Sadly, I had to stop again when I was diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritis in both hips in 2019.
After bilateral hip replacements in 2023, I resumed all forms of exercise but held off on running. In 2024, when my daughter had to drop out of the 10k race at the Ottawa Race weekend, I took over her bib and walk/ran a 10k. I was reminded of my love for running. I was thrilled to share this experience with my family.
While running half marathons is not something I will do again, a 5k is definitely doable (and approved by my surgeon).
So, on May 24th, 2025, I will run a 5k with my daughters.
I decided to fundraise for this event:
-to celebrate 10 years since my breast cancer diagnosis and recovery.
-to honour all the amazing women I met through my treatment and recovery and those that will one day have to walk this path.
-to celebrate my return to mobility with two new hips.
- above all, to honour this 10-year anniversary with my family - I am forever grateful for their unwavering support, love and laughter over the years - what a journey it has been!!
