Story
This year I’ll be running the Ottawa Race Weekend 1/2 Marathon! I’m still not quite sure how 😅— but I do know WHY:
Connected in Motion is a cause close to my heart: They’re an organization that exists to gather and inspire adults living with Type 1 Diabetes to challenge themselves and not let their chronic illness hold them back.
I’ve lived with Type 1 Diabetes for over 20 years, and it’s hard to not feel like so much of my life has been taken by this illness. A moment when that perspective changed, however, was when I participated in my first CIM weekend back in 2019. It honestly changed the way I live with T1D by showing me that I’m not alone and that my illness doesn’t have the final say— I do!
So with that mentality, I’ll be challenging myself to run my longest race yet for a cause that tells me to embrace the challenge. Training for a half marathon isn’t easy; and doing so with an illness that is wildly unpredictable makes it seem near impossible; but folks in this T1D community have shown me that we quite literally face the impossible everyday by defying all odds and living— so what’s one more impossible thing?
