Story
At Connected in Motion (CIM), we believe in creating a world where people living with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) feel supported, empowered, and connected. Through outdoor adventure, peer support, and diabetes education, we foster a vibrant, welcoming community for adults with T1D. Your financial support helps us raise awareness about T1D and ensures we can continue providing life-changing experiences for our community.
Margot here – truly, CIM’s programming has been life-changing for me. Here are a few highlights:
In 2023, I joined CIM’s hiking trip to Bon Echo Park. I hiked with fellow T1Ds; was treated to some live historical theatre about the park; and canoed alongside the iconic Mazinaw Rock and its pictographs, just as my dear mother Margaret was finishing her book “In the Shadow of the Rock, Bon Echo’s Story”. The weekend felt like one of those experiences that was somehow meant to be, and I was grateful to CIM for every minute.
This coming September, CIM is hosting an event during which I’ll be giving a talk about T1D and neurological health, combining my education in cognitive neuroscience, my experiences with my two mothers, and my diabetes camp past. The event takes place at Camp Huronda in Huntsville, the summer camp where I grew up, learned some leadership skills, and met incredible people who are still among my closest friends.
Last year I joined CIM’s Tamarack Ottawa Race event, another unforgettable experience. I’ll be doing it again on May 23rd, with a brand-spanking-new insulin pump on my hip. I made the decision after asking pretty much everyone in the CIM group at last year’s event about their experiences with pumping. I’m thrilled and admittedly nervous to be running with a pump, but I’ll be with people who understand.
Please consider donating to CIM and supporting experiences like these! Every dollar raised makes a difference in building a network of connection, adventure, and inspiration for those of us living with diabetes.
[tl;dr – It’s a great organization 😊]
