Story
Recreation Therapy is a valuable allied health profession that focuses on achieving optimal well-being through participation in meaningful leisure and recreation programs. Recreation Therapy addresses personal goals by developing cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and/or spiritual needs, while providing functional intervention, leisure education, and recreation participation to promote quality of life. Participation in Recreation Therapy may allow for prevention of deconditioning and cognitive decline during their hospital stay.
Trillium Health Partners (THP) is Canada’s largest hospital with over 1.75 million patient visits per year. The pandemic continues to take its toll on all of us, making life for everyone extremely challenging, but nowhere more than in health care – and especially at THP as we continue to experience higher than expected COVID-19 inpatient levels.
THP continues to navigate through the pandemic as we continue to deal with pressures for staff, patients, and families on our inpatient units. In February of 2021, our team of Recreation Therapists and Assistants started an initiative to create and distribute 800 comfort kits to inpatients across THP. This initiative was very successful and the Recreation Therapy team has taken on the goal of replicating the success of the Patient Comfort Kits for distribution in February of 2022.
We invite you to help bring some extra joyfulness to our inpatients by supporting our Patient Comfort Kit Initiative with a donation, or by donating some of the items listed below:
