I am going to walk a total of one million steps during the months of July, August and September 2022 to raise money for Diabetes UK. That is a total of 500 miles, equivalent to 19 marathons. This may sound easy for some but I spend my working week sat behind a desk and averaging at around 4000 steps per day. To reach my target I will be using my lunch breaks and evenings to get in as many steps as possible.
I am one of 4.6 million people in the UK living with diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 17 years ago on the 1st March 2005. Living with Diabetes hasn’t been the easiest to say the least. My body does not produce insulin, which controls my blood glucose levels. Therefore, I inject insulin every day to keep my blood glucose levels under control. About a year ago I was prescribed the Libre 2 Sensor. The Libre Sensor continuously measures my glucose readings. This has massively improved my control of my diabetes. I am now on a waiting list for the Omnipod which is a tubeless, wireless insulin pump that provides continuous insulin delivery. I feel extremely fortunate that I am now able to take better care of my condition through the latest healthcare technology. I have also been able to undertake a DAFNE (does adjustment for normal eating) training course which helped the management of my diabetes. All of these thing have been supported by research and development funding plus campaigning by Diabetes UK.
As you can tell, this is something that I am very passionate about and means a lot to me. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
