My great lady, Sabina (Bean), was diagnosed with something called DCIS 15 months ago. In short, it was intermediate level pre-cancerous cells that had to be removed before they potentially caused more serious harm. 3 operations later and numerous tests and biopsies left her needing 15 sessions of radiotherapy to further limit the risk of them returning or preventing any harmful effects at the time. This is where we were directed to the wonderful Lingen Davies Centre at Shrewsbury hospital for her radiotherapy. Whilst it was an extremely sobering and upsetting time for Bean to share the same waiting room with others less fortunate than her, we both are, and will be, eternally grateful for the care, compassion and support Lingen Davies gave us. The centre was set up by two chaps who largely funded the equipment and facilities themselves. So, I would like to say a thank you to them that words cannot or will not ever do justice, as well as helping them fund upgrades and replacements of the machines in order to help others moving forward. So me exerting pain on myself by running another marathon is what I’ll do, even more so as I’m not very fit at the moment.
