Fran's Robin Hood Half Marathon 2019

Robin Hood Half Marathon 2019 · 3 June 2019
Many of you may not know but I have been training to complete the Robin Hood Half Marathon in September.
Last year my son was born with his oesophagus not joined to his stomach known as Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF) and Oesophageal Atresia (OA) which is a rare congenital condition of the oesophagus (food pipe) and/or trachea (airway) and affects one in every 3,500 babies. Elliott had corrective surgery at 1 day old and then needed intensive neo-natal care for 4 months due to other linked conditions VACTERL. We continue to be an outpatient of QMC as Elliott is under several consultants with ongoing treatments. He amazes me every day at how well he is doing, how he is such a happy boy even after all the surgeries, invasive procedures and medications.
This was and is one of the most stressful and upsetting times in my life but the support from QMC's Doctors and nurses has been amazing and my son would not be here today if it wasn't for them.
Not long after getting home I decided I needed something to help my own mental health and took up running. After a few weeks, I decided I wanted to pay the hospital back for all its support so challenged myself to run the Robin Hood Half Marathon and raise funds for the Hospitals.
They need all the funds they can to help maintain the outstanding care they give their patients. Nottingham Hospitals Charity enhances patient care at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts Queens Medical Centre & City Hospital. Donations help provide added extras such as improved facilities, equipment, research & staff development.
For those that do not want to donate online, I can take donations direct and add them to the fund.
Please give generously,
Thank you in advance
