100 miles in March 2024

100 miles in March · 1 March 2024 to 31 March 2024 ·
Firstly, I have suffered with stress and anxiety for most of my adult life. In my younger adult years I never knew what was the matter with me as Mental Health issues were not discussed and were considered a sign of weakness. I surpressed my feelings in fear of what the consequences would be, such as losing my job, my income, my house, my family etc. However, as the years went by Mental Health awareness has become much more prominent and I have become far more open about how Depression and anxiety affects me. This has allowed me to manage my Mental Health, but also to talk openly to my peers about how my Mental Health can affect my day-to-day life. These days people are much more considerate of the effects of Mental Health.
Secondly, just over 12 months ago (following surgery on my back which had hindered my physicall wellbeing for 15 years) I started my journey into improving my overall fitness and stamina. This journey has opened my eyes to the benefits that getting fit has on my Mental state.
So joining my love for fitness to make a small amount of money for Mind, the leading charity for awareness of Mental Health, is the most logical fundraiser for me.
For the record, I intend to walk the majority of the 100 miles with a small amount of running mixed in. For context, this equates to a one marathon per week for the month of March, which for me is no small task. Every single mile I walk will be recorded on my Fitbit and evidenced for prosperity.
So please donate, however small, I really do appreciate it. Once the month begins I shall be updating my Justgiving Page with the progress that I am making so feel free to check back to see how I am getting on.
Thanks,
Gav.
