London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·

On Sunday 21st April 2024 #TeamHospiceUK 2024 are running to raise funds to champion and support the work of more than 200 adult and children hospices across the country.

Story

On Sunday 21st April 2024 I am running the London Marathon for Hospice UK!

  • Hospice UK is the national charity working with the government and NHS to ensure our 200+ local hospices can survive and thrive in these challenging financial times.
  • Hospice UK is there for children, adults and families going through death, dying, and grief.
  • One in four UK families can’t get the care they need and deserve when their loved one is dying. This needs to change.
  • It takes £3 million every single day to keep our local hospices open; two-thirds of this comes from individuals donations, including sponsoring people like me taking on challenges!
  • On average, two-thirds of adult hospice income, and four-fifths of children’s hospice income is raised through fundraising (therefore relying on people hosting bake sales, running marathons & local community donating each month (which during a cost of living crisis has additional challenges)
  • 96% of hospices are budgeting for a deficit in 2023/4 totalling  £186m
  • £120m to match NHS pay rises to be able to retain and attract staff to work in hospices
  • £29m in energy bills increase alone
  • 46% of hospices are considering one or more in-patient bed(s) being temporarily or permanently unavailable due to costs

Please sponsor my marathon and help me hit my target!  Hospice UK is there for children, adults & families going through death dying & grief. Together we can make sure everyone gets the care they need when they need it.
