Swimathon 2023 · 28 April 2023 to 13 May 2023 ·

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2023 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Story

I swam my first 5k Swimathon for my 50th birthday in 2012. This year I'm doing it again at 61.  It's part of a bigger 'swimming at 60' challenge which you can read about here - https://swimmingat60.wordpress.com/

But for the Swimathon I'm fundraising for Cancer Research and Marie Curie. Cancer Research UK is the largest charitable funder of cancer research in the world and will stay at the forefront of the global fight against cancer. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer. All of us can support the research that will beat it. Marie Curie is here for people with any terminal illness, and those close to them from diagnosis to bereavement. Our nurses and healthcare assistants support families directly across the UK. Our free support line can help with any question about end of life. And we campaign for structural change and fund vital research that improves end of life for everyone. On 12-14 May, thousands of swimmers will be heading to over 450 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
