The Brain Tumour Charity's London Marathon team are raring to go and ready to run towards a better future for everyone diagnosed with a brain tumour. We can't wait to take on the 26.2 mile course through the streets of London on Sunday 21 April 2024.

Story

I'm going to be taking on the world's most famous 26.2 miles on Sunday 21 April for The Brain Tumour Charity.

For the past 3 years my dad has been battling a grade 3 oligodendroglioma after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of the brain tumour in 2020. 26th July 2020 changed all our lives forever when my dad suffered a seizure in our first post lockdown badminton session, something we later learnt had been caused by the golf ball size tumour that had been growing in his brain. Following craniotomy and debulking surgery to remove the cancer my dad began physical rehabilitation, and his fight against the disease began. Watching my dad battle through the effects of the surgery on facetime due to the COVID rules at the time was hard, yet reminded me of the strength of his character, still cracking the most embarrassing dad jokes going and pushing to get back on his feet.

Following nearly 2 years of intense radio and chemotherapy and the amazing work of specialist nurses and doctors, scan result began to look positive and we realise how lucky we have been, or how strong my dad is rather, yet the daily challenges for him continue. In running a marathon for a charity very close to our hearts, I'm hoping to play a huge part in The Charity's movement to help people with brain tumours live longer and better lives, whilst raising awareness for the tremendous acts of strengths and bravery of the individuals fighting them.

If you can spare anything to donate I would be hugely grateful and you would be supporting a very worthy cause in the Brain Tumour Charity. Somehow after 3 of the hardest years of his life my dad manages to retain his sense of humour and competitive spirit. I just have to beat him at lawn bowls nowadays rather than badminton. Seriously though, he does very well for a man with half a brain.
