Story

To honor the legacy of Arthur Miller and his New York City public school education, the Arthur Miller Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides increased equity and access to quality theater education for public school students by investing in theater teachers. This is achieved through two programs:

- AMF FELLOWS PROGRAM, which offers robust support to NYC public school theater teachers, including mentorship, professional development, cultural partnerships with esteemed arts organizations, classroom resources, and access to professional stage productions (both live and virtual).

- AMF SCHOLARS PROGRAM, which offers 50% scholarships to qualifying students attending the Graduate Program In Educational Theatre at the The City College of New York.

Despite the fact that New York City is the theater capital of the country, only about 200 out of 1,800 public schools have certified theater teachers. Theater is a means by which to give a voice to all young people, but particularly students of color who make up the majority of the NYC public school population. It also fosters literacy, empathy, and collaboration among other lifelong skills. Theater teachers create a safe space where students can explore their authentic selves and tell their stories. AMF programs are truly needed now more than ever, with $15.5M recently cut from the NYC Department of Education arts budget. We hope you will support the students of today in becoming the next generation of imaginative citizens.
