Event: YMCA of Greater Boston’s People Helping People, from 1 January 2021 to 31 May 2021
We are the place where people help people - we are healthcare workers, corporate heads, community leaders, teachers, mothers, swim instructors and camp counselors who partner with the Y to make a difference.

Story

The Parkway Community YMCA continues to be a leading nonprofit committed to youth development, we have been a leader in providing swim lessons and water safety in the West Roxbury Community for 70 years.

“The Y swim lesson program is a unique program. We are a recreational swim program that not only teaches children how to swim but strives to teach the whole child.” While other swim programs focus on one stroke at a time, requiring a mastering of one stroke before moving on to the next, our swim lessons work on teaching the importance of safety in and around water. We care about our participants learning new skills, gaining confidence, gaining strength, and building relationships all while learning the importance of following safe swimming and respect of the water. We want to ignite a passion for the water which will enable children to grow and achieve a continued active healthy lifestyle without fear.

Our goal is to be able to serve all of our community with our swim program to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn to swim. If you have taken lessons at our Y we know that you can see the value in our program and are asking you to join us by giving a donation to help support another child in our community participate, financial assistance is available to those in need to help cover the costs.

We have seen the how impactful our program is with a combined teaching experience of 35 years between the three of us. During the pandemic many children in our community were without swim lesson instruction and families have faced social, emotional and financial hardship so it is with great enthusiasm that we ask you to give to our page so we can continue to make an impact now that we are re-open and offering our swim program.
