Story

Every fall, Bain Toronto runs a series of events to raise funds for the United Way in Toronto. To date, our office has raised over $1M to support our local community. This year, a new event is being launched - Sweat for U.W. where we all commit to completing a challenging physical activity over a 10 day period (Oct 9-18). I have committed to cycling 200km over this 10 day period (or the equivalent of 1hr/day for 10 days).

But why now? and why United Way?

COVID-19 has been ruthless. Its impact on the most vulnerable people in communities across the GTA is devastating and it will be for a very long time.

Gabor, who used to sleep on a park bench when he first arrived in Canada, connected with a United Way-funded agency and went on to find a job and stable housing. But then COVID-19 hit and it changed everything. He started getting less work and the relative stability he'd found began slipping away.

That's why I'm asking for your help in raising money for United Way. We can play an important role in ensuring United Way's safety net for its network of 280 community agencies across Peel, Toronto, and York Region is there for those who need it most. For people like Gabor. Not being able to offer the kind of support and help that allows people to survive and thrive despite all odds simply isn't an option. Will you join me today in supporting United Way?
