Faculty-Director Ming H. Chen founded RICE in Fall 2022 on a seed grant from UC Law SF's Centers of Excellence. In it's first year, it hosted 10 speakers, offered a colloquium class, sponsored community events on birthright citizenship, naturalized citizenship, and belonging. In it's second year, it co-hosted a full-day symposium "We the People: Race, Citizenship, and Equality" with a special issue in the UC Law Journal (February 2024) and a RICE tasting tour (April 2024). A Spring 2025 colloquium class and other plans are in the works for the future, if funding continues beyond our seed grant!
