Many of you probably don't know but when I started my career at the Y, the teen programming quickly fell into my scope of responsibilities. My supervisor at the time told me "you have a teen, so figure it out". I get a kick out of that because I truly had no idea what I was doing or that I would even enjoy working with young people. Eighteen years later, I can tell you without hesitation that this is my absolute favorite part of my job. Every summer I get so excited to meet our new group of young adult volunteers and day-campers. Knowing that they have a safe place to go that provides life skills and teaching work-force readiness has been such a blessing to me. I am fund-raising again this year because it is so important to provide this programming at no-cost to all participants. The Y provides pathways to employment, shelter, food and most important, a solid future.
