Cycling Down Dementia- Winter · 1 November 2022 to 30 November 2022 ·

Cycle 300 miles with Winter and make breakthroughs possible. Hope starts when you saddle up, and it could end with a cure for dementia.

Story

You may have known my Mum Sheila Jones in her younger years as she was a swimming instructor at Holywell baths through the 70s and 80s, as  well as running the Borough Grove play school in Flint through the 1970s with her long term friend Olive Ashington. After my Dad passed away, she did solo trips to such far flung places as Vietnam and Cambodia, learnt how to line dance and even opened a Thai restaurant in Chester with her friend Benny. Sadly she was then diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In the years that followed I saw her condition worsen and saw her disappear from me completely as this cruel condition took its toll on her. These days she's in a nursing home in Rhyl and is well cared for, but is no longer able to speak or recognise me when I visit her. Having seen how Alzheimer's has affected her so badly, succumbing to Alzheimer's myself is my greatest fear in old age. Anything that can be done to cure it, or even better to prevent it in the first place, gets my full support.

I joined Slimming World in June and have been doing some exercise daily since then to lose a few kilos to improve my Body Magic. This November, athough it will be really hard going as I'm no Bradley Wiggins, I'm moving my exercise activity up a gear and aiming to cycle 10 miles a day every day on my trusty exercise bike. Yes, 10 miles a day so 300 miles by the end of November.

If you'd be kind enough to support me with a donation I'd be so grateful, as would the charity. My Mum would have been the first to join me in doing this years ago. We would have probably hired a tandem for the month. I'm sure she will be joining me in spirit.

There's some more information on this fundraising campaign below, and if you can donate something, however small, that would be amazing and thank you xx

If you can't donate, and I know full well that times are hard right now, please share this if you can to raise awareness.

Many thanks,

Chris and Sheila  xxx

More info:

I've joined #TeamARUK by signing up to Cycling Down Dementia 2022 because I want to help Alzheimer's Research UK make breakthroughs possible.

One in three people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime, so please help me reach my fundraising target by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button.

The more people know about Alzheimer's Research UK, the greater their impact, so please spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
