Highland School is a Pre-K2 to Grade 12 independent coeducational day school located in Warrenton, Virginia. Serving a student population of over 510, our mission is to prepare students to thrive, lead, and serve in a diverse and dynamic world.

Story

Specialized software packages require regular and consistent access to develop familiarity, build proficiency, and realize expertise. Students in each division utilize specialized software every day, expanding their horizons and learning new technological skills.

Industry-Leading Tools in Upper School

Every day, our Upper School students use an array of professional tools like the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, which includes InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Music students use Logic Pro from Apple to mix, edit, and add effects to their recordings.

In Science classes, Upper School students are being introduced to Quantum GIS (QGIS), a geographic information system used to view, edit, print, and analyze geospatial data. QGIS has been adopted by government agencies and private corporations in the United States and internationally. They also use a software package called Capstone™ to analyze and report on the scientific data they collect.

Essential Introductions to CAD and Coding

In the Middle School, students use tools like SimLab virtual reality software and Tinkercad by AutoDesk® for hands-on learning in three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD), electrical engineering, and coding. They also use a software package called Cura from UltiMaker to manage, control, and operate a fleet of 3D printers.

Seesaw Helps Students Share Their Stories

In Lower School, students as young as Kindergarten are using Seesaw® to populate digital portfolios and share their work with parents and teachers. Teachers use it to create formative assessments, build specialized lesson libraries, and communicate directly with families.

Across all divisions, Highland makes every effort to ensure that our educational offerings stay up to date with subscriptions to the latest in cutting-edge software. Thanks to your generous donations each year, we pay for our students to access everything from SeeSaw in the Lower School to Final Cut Pro, InDesign, and QGIS mapping and Capstone data collection software in the Upper School. These software subscriptions help students go above and beyond in their 21st-century learning. With your gift, you’re supporting student access to these important tools! Thank you for making an impact!
