The objective of these funds is to assist Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in the San Antonio community in times of emergency and hardship experienced as a result of conflict in their home countries. Funds channeled through this campaign will provide educational resources and ease the burden of displacement impacting these families. Welcoming these newly arrived community members in solidarity at the Alamo Colleges District fulfills our mission to empower our diverse communities for success, while providing opportunities to develop global competencies and mindset for our local students. There are currently 150 displaced Afghan families in San Antonio and our community expects to welcome Ukrainian families as well. Support of this program gives refugees the opportunity to engage in English as a Second Language (ESL) continuing education classes, workforce training, or other educational opportunities on a case-by-case basis at the Alamo Colleges District.
