Story

Join my Tea for Tommy's and together let's raise funds to help save babies' lives.

On Wednesday 11th August at 20:12 at 17 weeks and weighing 90gs, our Beautiful baby boy Caleb was born sleeping.

On our 12 week scan, we were told that our baby had anencephaly. For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a fatal condition that affects 1 in 5,000 to 1, in 10,000 babies. As you can tell it's extremely rare.

Sometimes called “open skull,” anencephaly happens when the upper part of the neural tube doesn’t close completely during the baby’s development. The neural tube is a flat piece of tissue that grows into a tube and forms the brain and spinal cord. Without a closed tube, the brain and skull don’t develop.

Our world to say the least was shattered. I went through labour to deliver our sleeping little angel. I got to hold him, cuddle, kiss him and read stories and sleep next to him. Even though time was short to create these memories with Caleb I am truly grateful.

Words can not explain how thankful and grateful I am to our bereavement midwife Mel. She is one of a kind, it takes a special person to do her role.
