Story
It’s my favorite time of year, supporting a cause that holds such a special place in my heart- CAMP! 💛
Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC offers free grief camps for children ages 6-17 who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. This year I’m excited to again be supporting our youngest group of campers, ages 6–9.
Camp combines fun activities with grief-focused workshops that help campers explore ways to express themselves and develop skills to navigate their grief. It provides a safe space where kids can share their feelings and realize they are not alone. Trained volunteers provide one‑on‑one support, and licensed therapists lead therapeutic groups tailored to each age group.
I volunteer in memory of my mom, Ginny Rivera, who died when I was 13. At that age, I didn’t have a space like this, but I wish I had. This will be my eighth year volunteering, and every year I’m reminded how incredible it is when grieving kids are given this type of environment. Being able to support these campers is one of the most meaningful experiences of my life and has played a significant role in my own healing journey. Losing a parent or other significant person in your life at a young age is truly a lifelong grieving and healing process.
One of the most amazing things about Camp is that it is completely free for campers and their families. That’s only possible because of the generosity of donors and the fundraising efforts of volunteers each year.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar helps make Camp possible for a grieving child who needs it. Thank you so much for supporting me and the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing. I couldn’t do this without you all!
