SCOPE is proud to be partnering with New York Road Runners for the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 1, 2026!

Story

Over the past few years I have watched the New York City Marathon, as a spectator, in awe of the amazing efforts of the runners. Their ability to complete 26.2 miles alone is noteworthy, but the different causes represented, the people honored, the immeasurable support of family, friends and strangers is what has always made the New York City marathon so memorable to me. This year I’ve decided to take the leap over the barriers and run the New York City Marathon myself in support of SCOPE—a cause that is deeply personal to me and my family.

SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) is a national nonprofit funder of overnight summer camp and college scholarships, creating pathways to potential through Camp, Classroom, College, and Career for children and teens from under-resourced communities who commit to staying in school. When you level the playing ground of possibility, you give all children new pathways to potential.

For me, camp isn’t just something I support—it’s shaped my entire life. I grew up going to Timber Lake West as both a camper and later a staff member. Camp played a huge role in forming who I am—my personality, my values, and even the family and life I have built. I met my wife at camp. My four year old daughter is already entering her fifth summer at camp and this year I’m excited to introduce my second daughter to the magic as well.

Upon graduating from college, I stepped away from the camp world for a few years pursuing an accounting career. Though in keeping with the SCOPE mantra, my path ultimately lead me back. I am now lucky enough to be able to combine my love for business, finance, and camp as the CFO of the Timber Lake Family of Camps and Inns.

That’s why this matters so much to me. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful a summer experience can be. It builds confidence, independence, friendships, and sense of belonging. Running 26.2 miles is a challenge, but it’s one I’m proud to take on to help give more kids access to something that has given me so much.

If you’re able to support, you will be helping shape a child’s life in ways that last far beyond a single summer.
