Story

Lindsay, my amazing sister-in-law, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma on May 31st 2022. She fought this horrible disease with her wife Debbie by her side. I am honoured to be running along side Debbie and the rest of our team. I know that Lindsay will be our biggest cheer leader on the day.

This is Lindsay and Debbie's story.

Lindsay Bowling-Mowatt (LBM) my beautiful wife, my soulmate, my every breath, my world was diagnosed with a brain tumour- Glioblastoma on May 31st 2022.

Lindsay had been suffering from what was thought to be menopausal symptoms for a number of months. Headaches, forgetfulness, fatigue, clumsiness all symptoms of menopause and also all symptoms of Glioblastoma.

Lindsay was a fighter and from day one she never stopped, never gave up and gave her all to survive and stay with us.

She went through surgery, weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. We never left each others side and made a pact to take one day at a time and fight.

We would swim daily in the sea as this relieved pressure in her head. We walked, talked, laughed and cried. But most of all we clung onto life.

Inbetween treatment, we ran couch to 5k. We went on a Norwegian cruise, saw the northern lights and the huskies. We flew to New York before Christmas. Lindsay completed a wingwalk. We travelled Ireland in our campervan and saw Riverdance, paddled the highest aquaduct and skied. We got married and celebrated with our family and friends.

We always had a plan for a good day and a not so good day. We spent time with family and friends and we had a great team of Doctors and nurses around us, from the very start to the very end.

Lindsay was a crew manager fire fighter at NFRS, she loved her job. The day of her diagnosis a voicemail had been left to say she had passed the promotion panel for watch manager. She was so excited but knew she was never going to be able to take up the post.

Our Fire family were never far away and supported us all throughout. Lindsay had a full honours fire brigrade funeral.

The day our world came crashing down. Lindsay lost her battle on 28th September 2023.

Lindsay left a list of tasks for me and one of them was to run the Great North Run, for the brain tumour charity. The treatment for Glioblastoma hasn't changed much in the past 40 years. We just can't seem to get to know enough about it. We need more money for research. £700million is spent on cancer research every year in the UK and brain tumours account for just 3% of that funding. Survival from this horrific disease has a median life span of 12-18 months. Lindsay fought hard and survived 16 months.

Please help us raise awareness. If you can sponsor us on our journey it would be greatly appreciated.

Team LBM is made up of some amazing people who all hold a special place in our hearts .

I can't thank them enough for running with me and together we will fight to raise as much awareness of Glioblastoma as we can. I know Lindsay will be cheering us all the lway....
