Story
One adult. One child. One book at a time: Please help Everybody Wins! continue to provide reading mentors for children in VT and NH.
I've been the director of Everybody Wins! for eleven years. In that time I have seen over and over again the joy with which children and mentors greet each other every week. Our annual survey tells the same story every year: families, teachers, mentors, and the children themselves see the difference that having a mentor makes for children.
Children with mentors read more often, read more by choice, enjoy reading more—and as a result, they get better at reading.
Teacher, 2024: She has more enthusiasm for reading now and looks forward to "book shopping" every week to find something to read.
Children read better, AND they enjoy school more, and feel more connected to their communities.
Family, 2024: "It gives my child something to look forward to during the day. She often struggles with enjoying school."
Teacher, 2024: My students love it. It fosters a love of reading and gives them another trusted adult in their lives.
These are tough times for so many reasons. They are even tougher for children. More than ever, they need the steady, caring presence of safe adults.
Everybody Wins! gives me hope every day. That is not a small thing when the world seems upside down and I feel particularly helpless. That's really the reason I work so hard to support this organization—I know we are making things better to the best of our ability.
Please help us keep children reading with mentors: one adult, one child, one book at a time.
