The Canadian Cancer Society has been dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by cancer for over 85 years. With 2 in 5 people in Canada expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, cancer has an impact on all of us.

Story

Hi! I'm Catherine, and I'm running in the Ottawa half marathon this year in support of my mom, Deborah, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.

This type of cancer, like several other kinds of advanced cancer, is still considered incurable.

Stefan, who is running his first full marathon this year(!), and I are hoping to raise funds to help support research that will one day hopefully mean that all forms of cancer can be cured and that no one will have to get a diagnosis like my mom's.

Last year, the Canadian Cancer Society invested $50.8 million in cancer research and innovation programs. The organization also offers support services for patients and families and works with governments to inform health policies focusing on cancer prevention and improved access to care.

On race day, we'll be running for my mom, carrying her strength for every kilometre of our races.

If you’re able to support our run and this cause, you can donate here. Thank you so much for all of your love and support. <3
