Story

My fundraising challenge this year for The Brain Tumour Charity is the Great North Run on 8th September. Since 2018, I have done various walks and runs and have raised £35,000 plus gift aid, which I am incredibly proud of. But it doesn't stop there.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of children and adults under 40s. Sadly, my amazing husband, Con, was one of them. It's honestly one of the most devastating diseases as it takes your loved ones in the cruellest and most horrible way.

Con died 5 years ago after a glioblastoma diagnosis only 16 months earlier. Prior to this, he'd been living the dream as a professional cricketer and had also achieved his Level 4 coaching certificate, as this was the path he planned to take. Despite his many cricketing accomplishments, his proudest achievement by far was his family. Con lived for us. He never complained about his illness and he wasn't frightened of dying. The hardest thing for him was knowing that he would not get to see his children grow up or be able to provide for me.

I miss him so much. I miss silly Con. Funny Con. Loving Con. Kind Con. Mischievous Con. Professional Con. Husband Con. Doting Daddy Con. He was just the best.

Brain tumours ruin lives. They rob people of their future and families of their loved ones. My life has changed forever. I am half the person I was. My children have been robbed of the best dad and making lots of memories. And Con has been robbed of his future.

By running the Great North Run, I hope to raise as much money and awareness as possible for The Brain Tumour Charity, to help fund the research into improving survival rates and quality of life, and ultimately finding a cure.

As always, thank you so much for the support.
