Story

The past few years have been difficult. Since 2024, I’ve experienced loss each year, and with that came a lot of grief. Along the way, I discovered that fitness gave me something positive to focus on and became an important part of how I looked after myself.

It started with walking, which gave me time and space to clear my head. With the encouragement and support of family and friends, I eventually found the courage to join a gym. I’ll be honest, I’ve never particularly enjoyed being in the gym 😂, but I’ve always enjoyed the sense of achievement afterwards.

Over time, fitness became more than just exercise. It gave me something positive to focus on and a routine to rely on, particularly during difficult periods. Eventually, that journey led me to running and gave me the idea of taking on a challenge that had real meaning for me.

On 18th April 2026, we lost my beloved Auntie Carron Davies to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).

AML is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and causes abnormal blood cells to develop. It can progress quickly and often requires intensive treatment.

Auntie Carron is a huge part of our family. She is a motivator, always believes we can accomplish anything and is a constant source of fun and positive energy. When she walks into a room, she doesn’t just light it up. The energy she brings is majestic.

Her absence has been incredibly difficult.

I’ve always been a fixer. If there’s a problem, I want to find a solution. Grief is different because there is nothing to fix, and feeling helpless is something I personally struggle with. So I’m turning that feeling into something positive.

In 2027, I’ll be running the London Marathon.

For me, the marathon is about more than completing 26.2 miles. The routine and structure of training give me something to focus on and work towards, while helping me maintain a sense of routine during a difficult period.

I know Auntie Carron is proud of me, but I also know that completing the London Marathon would make her extremely proud.

I’m raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in loving memory of Auntie Carron. AML has had a huge impact on our family, and I want to use this challenge to support other people living with cancer and the families around them.

26.2 miles, in memory of someone who has always believed I could accomplish anything. 💚

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, I would be incredibly grateful for your support. 💚
