Story

Crisis - LBGs 2023 Charity Partnership

What comes to mind when you think about a ‘home’? For the lucky ones, it’s more than just a roof over our heads - it’s our safe space, somewhere we can welcome friends and family, making it easier to succeed, and allows us to put roots down in a community. Having a home is a fundamental human need and the stable foundation we all need to build lives.

Shockingly, it's estimated that over 227,000 families and individuals across the UK are facing the worst forms of homelessness, and almost 2 million households are living with poor conditions, such as mould, damp and overcrowding. The reasons vary, but mainly it’s the result of a combination of low incomes, the pressures of housing unaffordability - exacerbated by an undersupply of social rented housing in the places they’re most needed, and barriers to accessing the limited supply of decent, affordable homes in the private rented sector.

So what are we doing?

On average someone who is homeless will walk between 12 and 20 miles a day!

So on the 6th September a group of us will brave the Edinburgh weather and spend the day walking in the shoes of someone who is homeless. Our group will split into two, some will walk 12 miles and other brave souls will walk 20 miles.

We ask if you could kindly help us raise funds to help end homelessness!

Thank you in advance
