Story
Hello, my name's Emily. I'm a mother to 6 kids, married to the love of my life, and going through preventive treatment breast cancer not to return, or any other cancer. July 11, 2024 I was diagnosed with stage 3 grade 2 ER+/PR+/ invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. While undergoing treatment, we agreed to do genetics testing. In which I found out I have the BRCA gene.
When I had my double mastectomy, the pathology report showed there was no other signs of cancer. But since I have the BRCA gene. I'm still going through surgeries, as well as doing hormone blockers and a chemotherapy pill. This journey hasn't been easy. There has been plenty days I shed some tears, struggled with my identity, deal with physical and emotional pain. And sometimes, my depression gets to me really bad. The hardest thing I struggle with is knowing. All of my kids, will have a 50% chance of carrying this gene.
Life is hard most days. I've learned that there's nothing I can do about it but remain positive, buckle down and pray. Let go of my fears and worries and pray about it. Let go and let God. He has given me peace. Through my journey, the Mitchell memorial cancer center has been there for me countless times. Helped with financial support, emotional support, therapy, and of course took care of me through chemotherapy.
This is a way of giving back, if you all would love to help support this cause. It would TRULY mean so much to me. As well as them. Their are several cancer patients that struggle to pay for their medications, or buy food and the necessities they need. With your help, they could all benefit from this. It's not often spoke about the financial struggles we go through, through cancer.
Thank you all and God bless!
