Story
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. We're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And we're doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
My story
3 years ago our lives changed when my husband Ed was diagnosed with a brain tumour. This has been a very difficult thing for us to come to terms with and understand, and it continues to provide many daily challenges for him and us as a family. We are grateful that so far the tumour is not fast growing and thought to be low grade, but its presence has caused a number of symptoms including epilepsy, and he experiences frequent seizures that are very impactful on him. Despite being on a number of medications and receiving excellent care from his local team, the seizures are far from under control and at this present time, surgery to remove the tumour is not an option.
In this situation we find ourselves, where very little is in our control at all, I want to do something that will help him and others in a similar situation. There has to be more research into brain tumours, including these complex type of tumours that are very difficult to treat. There needs to be valuable support to patients and their families in order to help them deal with this news, and beyond the news, the day to day reality of life after diagnosis. The Brain Tumour Charity is one of the key charities we want to support, and may well receive support from too, in the future. They are an incredible charity that are constantly looking for ways to support people in practical and meaningful ways, and they raise money so it can go into the much needed research.
In April 2025 I will be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon in order to raise as much money as I can for this charity. It is no understatement to say this will be an enormous challenge as I have never run this type of distance before and am training gradually and steadily to achieve it. It is also not the easiest time to take on something like this when I am already quite overwhelmed and busy with life/work/our lovely but very energetic children – but to me that makes it even more of a challenge and it feels like the right thing to do. If you can support me, however big or small, I would massively appreciate it. It will make a huge difference to so many people.
Thank you for reading this,
