Story
I will spend two weeks in Bolivia in May 2024 helping build a pedestrian bridge near the remote village of Toracari. This bridge will provide safer and more reliable access to education, healthcare, farmland, and other vital infrastructure for the residents of the Toracari community. In the meantime I am serving with other professionals to mentor students in the EIA chapters at Duke and Virginia Tech. These students are charged with the engineering, design, and construction of the bridges. I am volunteering my time over the next 6 months to work with students, learn the fundamentals of bridge design, participate in design reviews, and participate in the labor and management of the bridge construction. The funds raised here go directly to EIA and will be used to offset travel expenses for volunteers. Any excess funds raised will be used to fund future EIA projects and activities. Read below for more information on EIA and the Bridge Program.
The EIA Bridge Program's mission is to empower today's volunteers to become tomorrow's global change-makers by building bridges with underserved communities. Since 2006 in our program, thousands of volunteers from 40+ universities and companies across the globe have designed and built 125+ footbridges alongside rural communities in 12 countries, effectively connecting over 150,000 previously isolated people to essential resources.
Those numbers are continuing to grow this year! But it costs a lot money to build these bridges and our volunteers incur a lot of expenses while volunteering their time and expertise. Please consider joining our "Bridge Builder Family" by making a financial contribution today!
