Story
Please support my volunteer efforts to build home dialysis rooms for children in Guatemala this September.
In partnership with local organizations in Guatemala, Bridge of Life and volunteers like myself are building and designing PD rooms for pediatric patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ERSD).
Bridge of Life’s PD Room Project is a new initiative that aims to provide a safe space for children with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) to undergo home dialysis treatment. By enabling home treatment, we're not only cutting down on the time and costs associated with traveling to clinics but also opening up new opportunities for education and work. Plus, it's a significant step towards transplant possibilities for these kids.
As the daughter of a former dialysis patient, this trip is very personal to me. Many times I drove my dad to his treatments. This was a 45 minute drive at 4 in the morning three times a week. The drive alone took a toll on my father. When I look at my dad now after 3 years of having a kidney transplant, I see hope for many of my patients who are in the same position he was years ago. I can only imagine what these families go through to have to drive between 6-8 hours for a lifesaving treatment. I plan to make a positive impact in these children's lives. I am excited to meet new people and make a difference while getting to experience a new culture.
