Every 5 minutes, stroke destroys lives. You can help rebuild them by joining #TeamStroke in taking on the Great North Run 2024!

Story

Hi everyone, thanks for getting here, you just reading this means a lot to me. Maybe this has happened to someone you love, someone you knew, worked with, care about...it's a big one, and it happens to a lot of people. There doesn't seem like much we can do, apart from visit and join in the care routine or just try make a loving connection, well we can do this.

This is my fourth consecutive year of competing in the Great North Run half marathon - between us we have raised £2311 for the Stroke Association, read all the way down for a breakdown of how our money helps people - I've actually got tears in my eyes writing this, your generosity melts my mind, it is so cool and thoughtful, and I’m going again - I've lost 10kg since last year (1.5 stone) and I'm in my best shape for a long time (the half marathon route owes me 15 minutes).

Since 2019 my dad has suffered a series of strokes, he was a capable and loving man and is now almost totally disabled and is unable to live without permanent professional care. In 2022 three of my cousins died before the age of 60 after suffering stroke damage, a fourth dear family member suffered a heart attack and passed away. I want to do something positive and raise money to support those who have been affected by strokes and to help the Stroke Association raise awareness of how to care for people in the immediate short term of experiencing strokes. Strokes are life changing or life ending and the effects cannot be underestimated. Please be generous if you can afford to be, this is my fourth year of fund raising for the Stroke Association and we really appreciate your support. Much love from Floyd, Kirsty, Henry xx

Here is a message from the Stroke Association

When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.

Here is how your money could help:

£45 could help someone find hope, emotional support and information through a call to our Stroke Support Helpline.

£75 could help fund research looking into new ways to help all people affected by stroke.

£100 could help a new Stroke Association Support Group to set up.

£450 could pay for two people to receive a weekly call, for eight weeks, from one of our trained volunteers.

We really couldn’t do what we do without you.

Please do all that you can to help us to give hope after stroke.
