Macmillan Cancer Support is investing £1.9 million to build a brand new Cancer Support Centre for people living with cancer in North West Surrey and surrounding areas

Story

Macmillan has pledged to raise £1.9million to cover the costs of creating this new centre. We rely almost entirely on voluntary contributions to fund all areas of our work and we would be grateful if you could consider a donation to ensure people living with cancer in North West Surrey can access the support they so crucially need

Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of more than 410,000 people living in the boroughs of Runnymede, Spelthorne, Woking and parts of Elmbridge, Hounslow, Surrey Heath and beyond. Around 30,000 people are currently living with cancer in the locality, despite this, there is currently no dedicated space for the provision of cancer specific information and support.

This is leaving a significant gap - particularly once patients finish treatment at the hospital. The 2021 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey results for the Trust suggested that patients need more appropriate support and information throughout their cancer journey including at the point of diagnostic tests; before and during chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment; and when dealing with treatment side effects.

We are raising funds for a Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Ashford Hospital, Surrey. In the unlikely event that the centre does not go ahead of or there is a surplus of funds, we will use the donations, not used/ needed for the build, to provide much needed help and support to people living with cancer.
