Story
I will be running the 2025 NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 2, 2025 to raise awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.
My stepbrother, Joseph ("Joey"), was born with a congenital heart defect, known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). When Joey began kindergarten, he was also diagnosed as learning disabled. However, these things never stopped Joey from being one of the kindest souls, who was always willing to lend a hand. He was an avid participant of Special Olympics during his lifetime, always pushing himself in the track and weight-lifting competitions.
Special Olympics allowed him to experience a competitive sports atmosphere in a way that inspired him to push past his limits while also giving him confidence to go after his goals. Sadly, Joey passed away in 2015 as a result of complications during open heart surgery. By running the NYC Marathon this year, I'm hoping to honor his legacy by raising money for an impactful organization such as Special Olympics.
Your donation allows more athletes to step off the sidelines and into the game, giving them a chance to experience the power of sport and be accepted.
